Getting Around Downtown West Palm Beach Without a Car: Free Rides, Trains, and Buses

West Palm Move: the city’s ride network

Hey, neighbor. If you remember the free downtown trolley or RideWPB, that service ended on May 31, 2026. Its replacement is West Palm Move, a city network that pairs an electric bus with app-based rides, and it is no longer free, but it is cheap.

The fixed-route bus runs north to south between the Norton Museum of Art and Northwood Village, with stops serving downtown and Clematis Street, CityPlace, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Good Samaritan Medical Center. It comes about every 10 minutes and costs $1 a ride. You pay by tapping a credit or debit card, phone, or smartwatch on the reader as you board. No app is needed, and cash is not accepted.

DayFixed-route hours
Monday to Friday6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On-demand rides are booked in the West Palm Move app and cost $2. The vehicle picks you up corner to corner, so expect a short walk to a virtual stop. Booking is ASAP only, with no scheduling ahead, and while the bus is running, on-demand trips are capped at 5 miles. Pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Mixing the two: transfers between the bus and on-demand are free, so a trip that uses both is a flat $2 total.

Accessibility: the service is ADA accessible, service animals are welcome, and wheelchair-accessible on-demand vehicles can be set up by calling 561-264-0458. The city’s West Palm Move site has the live service map, and it notes that the network design is subject to change.

Trains and buses

The city’s rail and bus hub sits on South Tamarind Avenue, just west of downtown.

Walking and biking the core

The city’s own advice for downtown is to park once and walk shorter trips, and Brightline describes its station as within walking distance of downtown destinations. For longer hops, you have three simple options:

  • Rent a bike at the Brightline station through BrightBikes.
  • Bring your own on Tri-Rail, or on any Palm Tran bus with its front bike rack.
  • Hop on the West Palm Move bus for $1 when the walk is too far or too hot.

Three car-free plans

  • Dinner on Clematis Street: Take the West Palm Move bus, which serves downtown and Clematis, tap your card for $1, and ride back the same way until 9 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, or 8 p.m. on Sundays. After that, book an on-demand ride in the app for $2.
  • A Miami or Orlando day trip: Get to the Brightline station on foot, by bike rental, or by a short ride, and skip the parking bill. Our Brightline guide has the station details.
  • Flying in: Take the free Tri-Rail Commuter Connector from the airport to the Tri-Rail station on South Tamarind Avenue, then switch to a bus or an on-demand ride.

If you do drive, our parking guide has the garage rates and street meter zones.
