South Florida Professional Sports

The coastline of West Palm Beach and the surrounding area is always a huge draw for locals and tourists alike and offers a wide variety of sports activities. Water-sports are obviously very popular but there is plenty of other sports action going on in this part of South Florida.

But we are also blessed with a number of top major and minor league teams in the vicinity, alongside some very good college athletic programs. If you are looking for teams that regularly challenge for championships and appear on the best betting sites in Florida, you don’t have to go too far from West Palm Beach to get your fix.

We like to tell you all about the best things to do and places to go in West Palm Beach – and sports plays such a big part of daily life here that we wanted to show that there is elite sports action on our doorstep too.

Football

A little closer to us in West Palm Beach is the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the world-famous Miami Dolphins. Football is the nation’s favorite sport and the distinctive aqua and orange jerseys of our local NFL team can be seen everywhere, especially during the regular season from September through to the end of the year.

One of the biggest teams in the NFL during the 1970s and 1980s, the Dolphins have started to compete at the top table once again and have made the playoffs in both of the last two years. We don’t have players to the standard of the legendary Dan Marino quite yet but the Dolphins are getting there and the tailgate parties are always worth checking out, even if you don’t have a ticket to the Dolphins game.

Hockey

Hockey in South Florida? You heard right. One of the NHL’s most successful policies over the last 20 or 30 years was to introduce the sport of hockey to places that don’t get to see much natural ice or experience wintry conditions. It has been a big hit in Los Angeles and Las Vegas – and Florida has its own major league team in the Panthers.

The team was only formed in 1993 but made it to the Stanley Cup finals three years later. Panthers fans haven’t enjoyed much postseason success over the organization’s history but things have been looking up recently. Florida made it back to the Stanley Cup finals again last year but lost out to the Vegas Golden Knights. If you want to see what all the excitement is about you can make the short journey from West Palm Beach to the Amerant Bank Arena in the city of Sunrise, due west of Fort Lauderdale. Maybe you will be the lucky charm the team needs!

Basketball

Back in downtown Miami itself, hoops fans can get to watch some of the biggest sports athletes in the world with the NBA’s Miami Heat. The Kaseya Center is ideally placed for anyone wanting to get the most out of a South Florida vacation – and within easy reaching distance of us here in West Palm Beach.

The Heat has been a regular playoff contender over the years and has three championships to their name. We think it is about time that the team hung another banner in the rafters of the stadium though – and they can always do with more fans making an NBA game part of the South Florida experience.

Other Sports in South Florida

As you can see, we are not stretched for what to see when it comes to professional major league sports in West Palm Beach. South Florida has everything just about covered, whatever your favorite is, and everything is easily accessible by road and public transport from our own fair city.

There is more to sports in West Palm Beach than just the major leagues though. You can watch ATP Tour tennis, PGA Tour golf, and even world-class equestrian events right here in town. There are also the Division II soccer, baseball, and basketball teams of Palm Beach Atlantic University, where you can get behind the Sailfish. Florida Atlantic University teams also play in nearby Boca Raton.

These are just all the organized sports teams to watch in the West Palm Beach area, of course. Our enviable climate and proximity to the ocean means that you can also try your hand at all sorts of water sports and other beach activities without having to go too far from downtown West Palm Beach. It just shows that there is no need to forget about your love and passion for sports if you are ever in the West Palm Beach area.
